blogger and ecto3

i seem to not be able to crack this one: ecto3 is not retrieving previous entries from my blogger.com account, however it is doing this in an inconsistent way, some of my blogs it retrieves, others does not, and i can not really figure out where the worm is. i thought that it was a matter of API url, and maybe it is, but where?

anhow... i will get back to this once i have a few hours of meditation time to spare.

Spanning Sync is not funny: update that does not work is mandatory!

Spanning Sync is tampering with my sense of humor. After their recent update to dance in with Leopard, my Tiger system is going on an infinite synching... It seems that I am not alone with this problem.

There is a forum discussing the issues, and then the spanning synch blog.

My wishes:

1. Push a reminder to update, and gently mention that the update is mandatory and that the software will stop working if you do not update.

2. Make it that a mandatory update does work for all OS that it is meant to work with. I mean, really work... not go into infinite loop oblivion!

Search Box on Blogger Layout

It is not there, it is missing. However it seems that the Search Box on Blogger is something in the works. Very much desired feature! I was trying to find something in one of my longer and older blogs on Blogger and having one hell of a time at it.

Gee.... I thought that Blogger had been bought by Google, and that Google was above all a search engine... What has gone wrong?

update: it helps to read posts on google blogs carefully... the search box is available from blogger in draft only, not the normal garden variety blogger!

The link collection is to be found on del.icio.us and a presentation is on slideshare. Alternatively you may refer to an old post on uncondition.

winmail.dat attachements for mac

It is really a royal pain to get them nondescript “winmail.dat” attachments sent by some good willing soul using a PC…

Found something that works rather well and is painless TNEF’s Enough.

1. Download

2. Install

3. Open offending attachment with TNEF’s Enough and save to a directory of your choice

4. Finally open the sought document!

This also seems pretty neat, but I did not install it and test it. All via good old google and this fellow Dave Taylor and Twister Mac.

A tidbit from one of my favourite geeks: David Galbraith on Facebook

The Design of Facebook: Almost as many people are going gaga about Facebook these days, as the iPhone and the knee-jerk reaction seems to... The link above will give you the full gore of what David writes, if not thinks, about it. I do not know enough about UI to agree or disagree with him. Often I find his views interesting, informative and certainly critical.
"Facebook takes a list of friends and creates a personal newspaper spliced together from the actions of people in your network. It goes beyond the early experiments in social networking which started with bare bones links to people, followed by blog like profiles (but for the 99.999% of people who don't really want or need a blog)."
I for my part am increasingly bored with Facebook. Bored and fascinated at the same time. Depending on what kind of friends one has befriended it can be really informational and useful, or just... well electronic fish wrapper. Ah! Poor poor fish! Actually boredom turns into fascination for me when I move my perspective from working tools to sandbox. Facebook is still at the sandbox level. If you have time, go play with it. Sometimes I do.

From Geneva with Love: Public Man to Theoretical Man

There is a bridge from Lift to reboot, it is Theoretical Man. It is a bit of a long winded story, but here is the write-up after my talk at reboot 9.0 in copenhagen on June 1. I post this here because the whole of this was inspired from the experience of my talk here on OpenStage "Knowledge Ownership". My posts on theoretical man are notes on a book that I have started working on.

This is a test post. But not only. I like this drawing made by Dave Gray during our creativity workshop at Lift 07. That is me and and one of the many many things that I say during that workshop.

ecto 2.4.2 release and new blogger

Yes, I am still anxiously waiting for ecto 3, but meanwhile 2.4.2 does improve blogging life. I stole a few minutes this morning and did the bit of testing it out after I initially run into a snag with the post title on blogger not posting. After you download the new release and install it make sure that you take this note from Adriaan into account. xposted from "the next"
